Air Conditioning Harrison

Harrison is a mixed-density Gungahlin suburb with a heavy proportion of two-storey homes and townhouses — dual-zone ducted work makes up the bulk of what we do here.

Because most Harrison homes were built after 2000 to at least 6-star ratings, heating and cooling loads are lower than the older Canberra stock — but that also means undersizing is easy to get wrong. We do a full Manual-J style load calc rather than square-metre rules of thumb, because a 7-star home in Harrison can be comfortably heated by a system that would be laughed out of a 1970s Weston Creek brick veneer.

Nearly every home in Harrison has solar-ready wiring or an existing PV array. When we spec a zoned ducted system here, we default to inverter units with high SEER ratings so day-time cooling load runs almost entirely off the roof. MyAir 5 or Daikin Airbase controllers let owners see zone-level runtime against solar generation on their phone.

Two-storey homes near Harrison School — very common in this suburb — need dual-return ducted systems to keep the upstairs bedrooms from overheating in summer. Townhouse and duplex sites are usually multi-split or single-zone ducted, depending on whether the body corporate allows roof penetrations.
